Activities
During the course of the year the DoorWays project provides a range of events and activities for young people to take part in. These activities have included the creation of a DVD documentary, Big Chess pieces (made and played) and also a number of individual and team challenges.
Many workshops are provided at DoorWays on a range of health issues such as smoking cessation, alcohol and drug abuse, healthy eating and relationships. A residential is planned with an emphasis on working together, improving self-esteem and self-worth, last year was a great success and all are looking forward to the next one.
Past Events
In 2008 Doorways organised a visit to Peat Rigg (an outward bounds centre in the North Yorkshire moors) for eight young people. The
weekend was challenging, full of fun and stretched the young people to try new things. The weekends activities included Archery, abseiling, climbing, orienteering and zip wire (One boy even came down the zip wire upside down).
After the successful Movie Making project in 2007, we moved on to produce two other DVD's, working with young people from Entry to employment and The Eston Centre (referral unit). The young people gained experience in writing and producing their own show, while at the same time having lots of fun. The Sumo DVD (shown right) was set as a game show, where contestants dressed in sumo suits and had to complete set challenges - it was hilarious.
